Web3 Leader Spotlight: Anthony Pham
This week, we had the opportunity to speak with Anthony Pham, Staff Site Reliability Engineer at Ledger. Ledger is a global platform for digital assets, having sold over 6 million devices to consumers in 200 countries.
As the Site Reliability Engineer at Ledger, Anthony has led the setup and launch of significant projects, including NFT platforms, Ledger Live and blockchain explorers.
What initially sparked your interest in blockchain and led you to join Ledger?
I wanted to join a Web3 company, and Ledger seemed like the perfect fit. I believe decentralized finance (DeFi) has the potential to revolutionise how we handle money and could be the future of payments, which is why I decided to join Ledger.
How do you stay updated with the latest advancements in self-custody and ensure that your work at Ledger remains at the forefront of innovation in this area?
I stay updated by following key industry accounts on X and reading our internal newsletters at Ledger. These resources help me keep up with the latest trends and developments in self-custody.
Are there any new initiatives or developments in the area of self-custody that particularly excite you?
Yes, I find many new developments exciting. For instance, I'm particularly enthusiastic about Distributed Validator Technology (DVT) projects, which effectively address security issues related to validators. I also appreciate clear signing for transactions, as it greatly enhances transparency about where funds are being sent.
Additionally, I’m very impressed with advancements in Multi-Party Computation (MPC). These improvements significantly enhance security by splitting private keys among multiple parties, which is especially beneficial for institutional investors. I also love how user-friendly hardware wallets are becoming more accessible, with features like biometric authentication and improved interfaces making them easier to use.
Finally, I think the integration of self-custody solutions with DeFi platforms is very good. This development allows users to interact directly with DeFi protocols, maintaining full control over their assets and reducing counterparty risk. I also find social recovery mechanisms particularly exciting, as they offer a practical solution for wallet access recovery by involving trusted individuals or devices without compromising security.
What key principles or values do you believe are essential for builders to uphold in order to foster trust and credibility in the Web3 ecosystem?
Web3 is still new and needs improvement in areas like infrastructure and security. Builders should focus on using open-source tools and bringing Web2 solutions into Web3.
Transparency, security, and community engagement are crucial for building trust and credibility in the Web3 space.
